Gelée Royale

Your path to royal health

For centuries this precious bee substance has fascinated naturopaths, beauty enthusiasts and health experts alike. Gelée Royale is considered a natural support for our immune defences, with proposed antioxidant, revitalising and anti‑inflammatory effects, and is said to promote a youthful, elastic complexion. What exactly is Gelée Royale and what else can it do?

What is Gelée Royale and why is it called "royal"?

The term “Gelée Royale” literally means “royal jelly” – and for good reason: this is a very special feeding juice for the queen bee. It is produced by nurse bees from pollen and honey in a specialised gland near the upper jaw.

Gelée Royale looks similar to honey and provides all the important nutrients, enzymes and bee hormones the queen needs for healthy development and a long life. The nutrient density of this unique product is comparable to colostrum (the first maternal milk in mammals).

Which health‑promoting ingredients does Gelée Royale contain?

Gelée Royale is a thick substance with an unusual, slightly tangy taste. Simply put, it consists of about 70% water, up to 25% fructose, glucose and sucrose, up to 18% proteins and amino acids, and up to 8% fat

The level of two important fatty acids, 10-Hydroxydecansäure and 10-Hydroxy-2-Decansäure, is considered an indicator of product quality. These fatty acids are associated with some of Gelée Royale’s health effects.

In addition, this valuable feed juice contains B vitamins, minerals (iron, manganese, copper, zinc, selenium, potassium, magnesium), antioxidant flavonoids, lipids and amino acids (lysine, proline, cystine). All these ingredients act synergistically and are responsible for Gelée Royale's positive health effects.

  • The queen bee is fed Gelée Royale her entire life and owes her long lifespan and rapid development to this precious food.
  • The exact composition of Gelée Royale is not yet fully understood, but 185 constituents of this remarkable product have already been identified.
  • Harvesting Gelée Royale is very labour intensive and only up to 500 g of Gelée Royale per hive can be collected annually.

Which complaints can Gelée Royale help with?

Most often this bee product is used as a tonic; it is also said to increase appetite, extend lifespan and help normalise blood pressure.

According to a clinical study, a peptide from Gelée Royale influences renin, produced by the kidney and involved in blood pressure regulation. In addition, Gelée Royale may help with colds, accelerate wound healing, improve physical performance and enhance general health.

As a strengthening agent Gelée Royale is popular with athletes. Its proteins and peptides can boost immune defences and support good physical performance.

Specific compounds such as jelleines and hydroxydecanoates show an antibiotic effect: they damage the cell walls of various pathogens such as bacteria and fungi and inhibit their growth, causing them to die more quickly.

The antioxidant properties of the flavonoids and phenolic substances in Gelée Royale help prevent oxidative stress. Antioxidant action is important to protect the liver, our nerve cells and kidneys from damage by free radicals and thus for preventing cardiovascular disease, diabetes and various inflammatory processes and cancer

Gelée Royale's ingredients can also positively influence cholesterol levels. Furthermore, it may improve fertility – animal studies have shown increased blood testosterone in males and more and better oocytes in females.

How does Gelée Royale work as an anti‑age ingredient in cosmetics?

Thanks to its antioxidant, moisturizing and collagen‑supporting effects, Gelée Royale is considered an effective anti‑age ingredient in cosmetic products.

Gelée Royale contains a range of amino acids, vitamins (especially B‑complex) and trace elements that stimulate cell production and promote the regeneration of skin cells. This can reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The lipids and proteins it contains help the skin stay supple and retain moisture better. The result: a plumper, fresher complexion and a strengthened skin barrier.

As an ingredient in creams, serums or masks, Gelée Royale can naturally and effectively contribute to skin rejuvenation—without invasive procedures.

What role does Gelée Royale play in wound healing?

Some studies report that it stimulates fibroblast cell division and promotes increased collagen production, so it can also be used to support wound healing.

Another study showed that Gelée Royale’s circulation‑promoting effect is involved in faster healing of the diabetic foot.

Queen's strength for everyday life – how to use Gelée Royale correctly

  • Gelée Royale is available in different forms: the pure product, capsules, drink ampoules, lozenges for internal use, as well as creams, fluids and lip balms for external use. Choose the form that suits your intended application.
  • As a rule, Gelée Royale is taken in the morning on an empty stomach. The recommended daily dose for oral use is 500 mg per day, but follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you experience nausea, start with a smaller dose and increase it gradually.
  • Pure Gelée Royale or ampoules are taken sublingually: place the product under the tongue and let it dissolve slowly. This way it is absorbed through the oral mucosa and its effect is not impaired by stomach acid. If the natural taste is unpleasant, you can stir it into drinks (but not milk) or mix it with honey.
  • Lyophilised (freeze‑dried) Gelée Royale in capsules is the most practical form. Capsules are often combined with propolis, bee pollen and vitamins, which enhance Gelée Royale's effects.
  • For people with a weakened immune system a three‑ to six‑week course is recommended to activate the body's self‑healing powers. Such a cure should not last longer or be repeated more than three times a year. Otherwise Gelée Royale's antibacterial action may also reduce beneficial gut bacteria.
  • Face creams containing Gelée Royale can be applied to cleansed skin morning and evening to provide moisture.
  • You can make your own Gelée Royale cream. Put 2 tablespoons of beeswax in a bowl, melt it in a water bath and mix with 90 ml of vegetable oil. After cooling, add 2 tablespoons of Gelée Royale gradually and stir. Let the cream set and store it in the refrigerator for up to two months.
  • You can also mix a little Gelée Royale with water and apply it to the skin. This helps with blemishes.
  • Store fresh Gelée Royale in a dark jar in the refrigerator, as air and light degrade its valuable ingredients. It can also be frozen in portions.
  • Gelée Royale is not suitable for infants, but it can be used in children. Choose the alcohol‑free variant for them.
  • Be aware that taking Gelée Royale can cause hypersensitivity reactions, asthma attacks, gastrointestinal reactions or facial swelling. If you have an insect sting allergy, asthma or a tendency to atopic skin reactions, consult your doctor before use.
